When installing 3PE-coated steel pipes, if the required lengths haven't been properly planned in advance—typically, 3PE-coated steel pipes are 12 meters long—but sometimes certain sections of a project call for pipes that are only 3 meters long, then it becomes necessary to cut the 3PE-coated steel pipes accordingly.
3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe During installation, if the length hasn't been properly planned in advance—typically, 3PE-coated steel pipes are 12 meters long—but sometimes certain sections of the project require only 3 meters, then it becomes necessary to cut the 3PE-coated steel pipes.
There are many methods and tools for cutting 3PE-coated steel pipes—it just depends on individual preference. Personal skill level is also a factor. When cutting 3PE-coated steel pipes, we can even use a standard cutting machine.
To ensure that pipe fabrication remains free from deformation, it is crucial to select a cutting machine that meets your welding requirements. Different cutting machines employ different cutting methods, and there are also other approaches available. Currently in China, the most commonly used methods include mechanical cutting, flame cutting, and waterjet cutting. All three of these methods can effectively prevent pipe deformation.
1. Mechanical Cutting of 3PE Coated Steel Pipes: This method employs both external and internal installation techniques. It utilizes the principle of turning to cut and bevel pipe ends. The machines have a large working span, can handle pipes of considerable thickness, generate minimal waste, produce no pollution, and operate at low temperatures without affecting the pipe material—thus facilitating welding operations. Waterjet cutting, on the other hand, uses a high-pressure pump combined with abrasive grit to process the pipes. It produces clean cuts and has a wide working range; however, its efficiency is relatively low, and its ability to process thick pipes is severely limited.
2. Oxygen-acetylene flame cutting of 3PE-coated steel pipes: By adjusting the oxygen valve and the acetylene valve, the mixing ratio of oxygen and acetylene can be varied to produce three different types of flames: neutral flame, oxidizing flame, and carburizing flame.
3. Ion Cutting of 3PE Anti-Corrosion Steel Pipes: By using plasma cutting with different working gases, it is possible to cut a wide variety of metals that are difficult to cut using oxygen cutting—especially non-ferrous metals (such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, and nickel), where the cutting results are particularly excellent. The primary advantage of plasma cutting lies in its high cutting speed when processing metals of relatively small thickness. In particular, when cutting thin sheets of ordinary carbon steel, the cutting speed can be 5 to 6 times faster than that of oxygen cutting. Moreover, plasma-cut surfaces are smooth, thermal deformation is minimal, and the heat-affected zone is significantly smaller.
