1. Impact test
In addition to maintaining the appropriate room temperature range, the coating should also be subjected to impact testing in accordance with relevant national standards to observe any changes in the inner coating.
2. Visual Inspection
This is a direct way to determine whether a coated composite pipe is of good quality. As for the appearance standards that steel pipes should meet, relevant national laws have already laid down specific requirements.
3. Bend Test
If you’re unsure whether the coated composite pipe you’ve purchased is of good quality, you might as well ask the retailer to perform a bending test first. According to regulations, a qualified coated composite pipe should have a bending angle of around 30 degrees, and the room temperature must be kept within a specific range—too high or too low will both fail to meet the testing standards.
4. Pinhole Test
The length of the pipe segment specimen is approximately 1000 mm. The steel pipe coating shall be inspected using an electrical spark leak detector at the specified test voltage. If the coating thickness is no greater than 0.4 mm, the test voltage shall be 1500 V; if the coating thickness exceeds 0.4 mm, the test voltage shall be 2000 V. The inspection shall verify the absence of any electrical sparks. The test results must comply with the requirements specified in 5.5.
5. Adhesion Test
The adhesion test shall be conducted in accordance with CJ/T 120-2008, and the test results shall meet the specified requirements.
6. Crushing test
For coated steel pipes with a nominal diameter greater than 50 mm, a flattening test shall be conducted. The length of the pipe segment specimen shall be (50 ± 10) mm. At a temperature of (20 ± 5) ℃, the specimen shall be placed between two flat plates and gradually compressed on a pressure testing machine until the distance between the two plates reaches four-fifths of the outer diameter of the specimen. During the flattening process, the weld seam of the coated steel pipe shall be perpendicular to the direction of the applied load. After the test, the internal coating shall be inspected, and the test results must meet the specified requirements.
