Single-layer epoxy powder (FBE) and double-layer epoxy powder (2FBE) anti-corrosion for steel pipes

Fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) powder external coatings (FBE/2FBE) are a new type of anti-corrosion coating that has been developed over the past 30 years. FBE coatings come in two types: single-layer and double-layer. The term "FBE coating" typically refers to the single-layer fusion-bonded epoxy coating. The single-layer FBE coating uses a specialized fusion-bonded epoxy powder coating as its film-forming material. This epoxy powder coating is applied using an electrostatic spraying process, forming a continuous film in a single pass.

Steel pipe polypropylene 3PP anti-corrosion

2PP/3PP Anti-corrosion Steel Pipe Specifications: Φ89mm–Φ3200mm Material: Q235B, Q345B, 10# Steel, 20# Steel, Grades X42–X80 Standards: SY/T7041-2016, DIN30678 Advantages of the Anti-corrosion Coating The three-layer polyethylene anti-corrosion coating combines the excellent properties of both epoxy coatings and extruded polyethylene coatings. It integrates the interfacial characteristics and chemical resistance of epoxy coatings with the mechanical protection features of extruded polyethylene coatings, significantly enhancing the performance of each component. Therefore, it serves as an outstanding external protective layer for buried pipelines. According to relevant data, the three-layer PE coating can extend the service life of buried pipelines up to 50 years and is currently recognized internationally as one of the most advanced pipeline external anti-corrosion technologies. In 3PE anti-corrosion systems, the three-layer PE coating has been first applied in oil and gas systems. The Shaanxi-Beijing natural gas pipeline and the Kuerle-Shanshan oil pipeline—both already completed in China—along with the nearly 4,000-kilometer West-to-East Gas Pipeline project, all utilize the three-layer PE external anti-corrosion coating. Additionally, the 67-kilometer high-pressure pipeline from Shaanxi to Tianjin, the 30-kilometer outer ring high-pressure natural gas pipeline, and the 122-kilometer pipeline of the Shaanxi-Beijing underground gas storage facility also employ the three-layer PE coating. As such, the three-layer PE coating has become the leading direction for the future development of external anti-corrosion coatings for pipelines. Applications: The product is widely used in oil pipelines, natural gas pipelines, heating pipelines, and water supply pipelines. Application Scope: Currently, China has not yet established an industry standard for 3PP coatings. Therefore, the 3PP anti-corrosion pipelines produced generally follow the German standard DIN30678 “Polypropylene Coatings for Steel Pipelines.” The 3PP coating is primarily used as an anti-corrosion layer for pipelines transporting media at relatively high temperatures, as well as for pipelines located in desert regions characterized by high surface temperatures and prolonged sunlight exposure. Consequently, it has gained increasingly widespread application on buried water, gas, and oil pipelines in areas with high surface temperatures and long periods of sunlight.

Steel pipe polyethylene 3PE, 2PE anti-corrosion

Epoxy powder is electrostatically sprayed onto the surface of steel pipes, followed by lateral wrapping with an adhesive and lateral wrapping with a polyethylene anti-corrosion layer. By combining the excellent properties of these three components, the overall quality of the anti-corrosion pipeline is significantly enhanced. The pipeline exhibits outstanding resistance to chemical corrosion, resistance to cathodic disbonding, and resistance to mechanical damage.

Steel Pipe Polyethylene Cold Wrapping Anti-Corrosion Coating

The anti-corrosion system for polyethylene anti-corrosion adhesive tapes consists of an anti-corrosion tape, a protective tape, a joint-repair tape, and a primer. The adhesive tape itself is a strip-shaped anti-corrosion material produced by co-extrusion, comprising a polyethylene-based film with a layer of adhesive applied via hot lamination—this adhesive layer is primarily composed of butyl rubber. It features excellent insulation properties, superior anti-corrosion performance, high mechanical strength, resistance to impact and aging, low water absorption, ease of installation, safety and hygiene, a wide range of applications, and a long service life.

What are the principles and advantages of anti-corrosion steel pipes, and what are their coating requirements?

With the increasing development of national pipeline transportation infrastructure, pipelines have found widespread application. Coating is one of the fundamental methods for preventing corrosion of steel pipes. After removing rust from metal pipelines, the paint should be applied evenly and firmly to effectively isolate the pipe from various corrosive media. Let’s now take a closer look at the principles behind anti-corrosion steel pipes.

Advantages of Anti-corrosion Steel Pipes and Anti-corrosion Technologies

Anti-corrosion steel pipes are steel pipelines that have undergone special anti-corrosion treatment, effectively preventing or slowing down corrosion caused by chemical or electrochemical reactions during transportation and use. Combining the mechanical strength of steel pipes with the corrosion resistance of plastics, these pipes serve as underground metallic structures. To extend their service life, steel conduits and lead-sheathed aluminum cables typically feature an external anti-corrosion coating for protection.

There are three primary methods for classifying steel pipes: by manufacturing process, by shape, and by application. Manufacturing processes are typically divided into seamless and welded types. By shape, steel pipes can be categorized into standard round, square, and special types such as double-dimple pipes. As a special type of steel pipe, anti-corrosion steel pipes undergo specialized anti-corrosion treatments that effectively prevent or slow down chemical or electrochemical reactions and corrosion during transportation and use.

What is TPEP anti-corrosion steel pipe?

What is TPEP anti-corrosion steel pipe?

TPEP anti-corrosion steel pipe, also known as coated pipe, steel-composite pipe, or coated composite steel pipe, features an outer wall made by a hot-adhesive wrapping process that forms a three-layer anti-corrosion coating consisting of an underlying epoxy powder, an intermediate adhesive layer, and an outer polyethylene layer. The inner wall is protected by a hot-sprayed epoxy powder coating. After the steel pipe is heated to high temperatures, the powder is evenly applied to the pipe’s surface. As a result, this coating combines the advantages of both epoxy powder (FBE) coatings and polyethylene coatings. It can be widely used in various anti-corrosion engineering applications.

Advantages of TPEP Anti-Corrosion Steel Pipes

TPEP anti-corrosion steel pipe, fully known as internally fused epoxy and externally 3PE-coated anti-corrosion pipeline, uses a steel pipe as its base material. The outer wall is coated with a three-layer polyethylene anti-corrosion layer, while the inner wall is protected by a hot-melt epoxy resin powder. At high temperatures, this process forms a steel-plastic alloy layer. It is commonly referred to as TPEP anti-corrosion steel pipe.
